Kallidin was founded by Warwick Beresford-Jones (product and architecture), John Brodie (fundraising) and Sam Riddington (consulting). John and Warwick have built and exited two previous data and AI businesses, and John is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Edinburgh AI Accelerator. The team’s background spans enterprise consulting and financial services, including IBM, Deloitte, Accenture, Wipro and major UK and global banks, shaping a simple belief: enterprises need a governed, auditable AI system they can trust, not another pilot.
Kallidin is based in Scotland and building for Scotland, drawing on Edinburgh’s data science and AI talent and university research links, with growth tied to the wider Scottish fintech and AI ecosystem.
The company’s focus is regulated industries: financial services, private equity and legal, where the cost of an ungoverned AI error is highest and trust decides adoption.
This shows in the software. KAL, Kallidin’s flagship product, runs inside the client’s own cloud environment, with every output carrying a full audit trail. Multiple AI agents check each other’s work, including a mathematician agent that reviews the others’ outputs and stops hallucination before it reaches the client. KAL is built to be understood and interrogated, not taken on faith: an answer you can stand behind, governed, audited, trusted.
KAL is the Autonomous Data Office, a multi-agent system that relieves pressure on manual data team functions by answering analytical questions about the business directly. At its core is a semantic layer, an ontology mapping enterprise data into one governed business model, so every agent draws on the same definitions. Every use improves data quality, and the layer is leveraged across the enterprise, not just by KAL. Alongside KAL, Kallidin runs AI enablement consulting, starting with a diagnostic that sizes and prices the work, so clients move AI out of pilot and prove value fast.
John Brodie and Warwick Beresford-Jones have built and exited two data businesses together, Aquila Insight (sold to Merkle, 2017) and Forth Point (sold to Blend360, 2023). Across both, they watched the same pattern: enterprises spent heavily on data and AI transformation, then lost the capability the moment the programme team demobilised. Sam Riddington, a friend of John’s since they were 15 and a consultant for 25 years at IBM, Deloitte, Accenture and Wipro, had seen the same failure from the client side: programmes that landed well versus programmes that quietly reset. The three founded the company to close that gap permanently rather than resetting it at every change programme.
Early on, the company explored a broader set of ideas, including shadow AI risk and general AI consulting, before narrowing to auditable analytics, a return to John and Warwick’s core expertise in data and analytics. The semantic layer at the centre of the product is, in turn, a return to Sam’s own area of expertise: enterprise enablement, landing change in large regulated organisations so it sticks rather than resetting at the next programme.
That focus became KAL, the Autonomous Data Office: governed, audited AI agents that answer business questions directly from an enterprise’s own data, checked by a dedicated mathematician agent before anything reaches a client.
Kallidin is based in Scotland, pre-revenue and building deliberately rather than chasing early logos. The founders have built a diagnostics practice that sizes and prices engagements before committing to build, developed the semantic layer toward a second version open to other applications via SQL, REST and MCP, and built a pipeline across financial services, private equity, legal and contact centres, alongside partnership conversations with major consultancies and the hyperscalers.
