After developing the UK’s first city-wide gift card program Town & City Gift Cards in Perth in 2015, Miconex has gone on to become one of the fastest growing Scottish fintechs. Miconex’s Town & City Gift Card and Downtown Gift Card programs are active in 200+ places in the UK, Ireland, Canada and the USA. Over 20,000 businesses are part of Miconex’s programs, with over £45million in local spend delivered.

Unlike competitors in the gift card industry, Miconex’s technology is place specific and backed by an experienced implementation team, with full technical program setup, materials, support and an industry leading client success program.

Miconex’s Town & City Gift Card and Downtown Gift Card programs are multi-award winning. In 2025, Miconex were a finalist in the Team of the Year category in the Gift Card and Voucher Association (GCVA) Hall of Games awards. In 2024, Miconex picked up the ‘A Force For Good’ award at the 2024 PayTech awards for their commitment to positively impacting people, places and businesses. The company received the Best Creative Marketing Campaign award at the GCVA Hall of Fame awards in 2024, and were a finalist in the Pay360 Awards for Best Card Consumer Payments Program. In 2022, Miconex collected the Social Impact award at the Scottish Financial Technology awards in recognition of trailblazing initiatives to address socio-economic challenges and positively impact communities.

Alongside consumer sales, Town & City Gift Cards are popular for employee incentives and rewards. Miconex picked up the award for best use of prepaid at the Incentive Awards in September 2020 and were awarded the prestigious Company of the Year accolade at the November 2021 Incentive Awards. Miconex were presented with the Small to Medium Business of the Year award at the September 2022 Gift Card and Voucher Association (GCVA) Hall of Fame awards. In 2025, Miconex built on the success of its digital gifting product in Europe by launching digital Gift Card technology in Canada and the USA, alongside EML Payments. The launch included the introduction of digital e-cards and the tokenization of physical cards, both allowing Miconex’s Downtown Gift Cards to be added to digital wallets, enabling contactless payment technology. Miconex gained significant traction in North America in 2025, with programs totalling 40+ across 9 provinces in Canada, and 30+ programs across 14 states in the USA.

In Scotland, the trailblazing Scotland Loves Local Gift Card continues to go from strength to strength. Since the launch of the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card in 2021, an extraordinary £16m has been locked into the country through the initiative. Around 7,000 businesses across Scotland accept the card. In 2022, as the cost of living crisis took hold, 6 local authorities used the physical Scotland Loves Local Gift Card to distribute LACER funding, providing targeted support for businesses and communities. A disbursal initiative in Glasgow saw £8.9 million distributed to 85,000 recipients. £1.9 million was distributed in Aberdeen, £1.13 million in Aberdeenshire, £472,000 in East Renfrewshire, £495,000 in South Ayrshire and £798,960 in Argyll and Bute.

In Ireland, the ‘shop local’ revolution is gathering pace with 16 Town & City Gift Card programs in the country in 2025. In 2024, sales topped €10.5m in 2024, driving an estimated 150,000 visits into Irish towns, up from €7m in 2023. Local Gift Card sales in Ireland are expected to exceed €15 million in 2025 across its 16 Town & City Gift Card programs.
