At Lifeium, we have done our research to better understand the drivers of disengagement. The main reasons why people don’t create a will are because it is tedious, time consuming and generally a grim topic which people in day to day life find easy to avoid; “I’m too young”, “I’m too busy, I’ll do it when I have the time”, “I don’t have assets”, “I don’t know where to start”, “My partner will get everything anyway”…

We were shocked to uncover this and after many months of brainstorming, reading, talking to people and thinking, we believe we have come up with a viable solution; The initial process of creating the will needs to be accessible on an app, anytime, anywhere, at the press of a few buttons on the smartphones we all find ourselves carrying these days.

Sounds great right, well it is!

We would like to be upfront and say, we are not creating a DIY solution for creating wills or looking to disintermediate law firms. After lengthy consultations with the Law Society of Scotland, we know that this approach, as adopted by our competitors, does not work. Such DIY wills often end up in probate courts due to poor legal intervention which is where you, the lawyer, add most value;

Giving people the right advice, to execute their heartfelt wishes, as they intended to, in the unfortunate scenario where they are not with us anymore.

Which is why we would like to distance ourselves from these ridiculous concepts that try to eliminate you the lawyer, we want to create a tool that enables you to delegate the low value administrative tasks and leaves you to focus on giving high quality legal advice. A tool that makes your life easier, gives you better access to your clients information. A tool that says, hey, we are ‘on the ball’, we are using technology to give our clients a better service. A tool that doesn’t cost a fortune and that you can brand as your own.

Your client will enjoy that the app is easy to use, engaging, sleek, and they can access it anytime anywhere. They will be happy that they don’t have to sit down with 17 page fact find documents, instead they will put this information in an app in small steps at their convenience. They will enjoy that they can leave video clips for their loved ones; tell me how you can do that with a paper document?
